For active members who are considering retirement, please use the following instructions to begin the retirement application process:
Request a Service Check and Benefit Estimate
Submit completed Service Check and Benefit Estimate request forms to RSCD Member Services for processing. You will be provided with a Service Check report and a Benefit Estimate report. The information provided on these reports will verify years of service according to system records, any current contribution balances, and estimates of how much you may expect to receive as a pension allowance per each option available to you. If you need assistance, please contact RSCD Member Services at (313) 224-3362 and select Service Estimates from the Member Services call menu to speak with a representative. Provide Notice of Intent to Retire
Contact your city payroll department and notify them of your intent to retire. They will provide you with an Intent to Retire Package which will include your Letter of Intent.
Schedule and Attend your Retirement Interview
Contact RSCD Member Services at (313) 224-3362 and select Retirement Appointment from the call menu to schedule your retirement interview. During the retirement interview, a Member Services Representative will assist you in completing the appropriate retirement application. To complete this process, you will be required to provide all of the following items during your retirement interview:
- Proof of birth for yourself
- Proof of birth for your beneficiary
- Your beneficiary’s social security number
- Your marriage license (if applicable)
- Direct deposit information with a voided check
- Letter of Intent provided by City payroll
- Provide Divorce/EDRO documents (if applicable)
